TRIPLE ADMINISTRATIVE CONTROL.
THE College Street (I’almerston N.) School Committee is annoyed because the erection oUa new infant school is being held up owing to a dispute between the Board and Department re plans. It’s about lime that triple administrative control**)!’ educational affairs was on the head. The i local committee knows its requirements, and should deal direct with the Department, but the Board or “glorified school com-' mil tee” has certain statutory rights redolent of the old Provincial form of Government, which is a stumbling block to progress. While the Board and Department “scrap,” the children suffer. Tiie Minister is driving another nail in the coffin of Board control by 'appointing a higidyqnulitied architect whose advice in reference to school buildings will be accepted by the Department independent of architects employed by Boards. In fact, when the new appointment is made there will he no need for Board architects, as no doubt school buildings will be erected upon standard plaps. Incidentally. while the College Street. Committee was adversely criticising the delay caused by the friction between the Board and Department, a committeeman suggested that they should go to Foxton and get one of the “live* bugs,” there to do away with their old infant school!
