FOXTON RETAILERS’ ASSOCIATION.

The first annual general meeling of members of the Eoxlon Retailers’ Association was held las) night. Mr W. D. Baneklmm (president) being 1 in the chair. There was a fair attendance of members. The balancesheet for the past year was submitted and adopted, and disclosed a very satisfactory stale of affairs. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year; —President, Mr W. D. Bauekham; secretary, Mr F. Rimmer; committee. Messrs Healey, Tver, Perreau and Hudson. The question of the appointment: of a nightwalehman was again considered. It was mentioned Unit the Borough Council was agreeable to pny Ills per week towards the cost of a niglilwatelmmn, and a canvass of business people and property owners in the brick area, was made some little time hack, and promises of amounts totalling up to £- per week were obtained, making, with the Council’s donation, £2 10s (Id per week in’ all. This, however, wtts iiisuffieieiit for the iutrpo.se, and the matter was allowed to stand over, l! was now considered that some others, who were not previously approached, would be prepared to join in and contribute, it was.decided to leave the matter in the hands of the Committee, with power to act. The question of taking some united stand in reference to subscribing collectively to various lists and appeals that are from time to lime made on townspeople, instead of individually, as in the past, was considered. The retiring committee recommended a sliding scale ui 'subscription for this purpose, the subscription, including membership fee, ranging from £1 to £3 annually, according to the size of the business, and that any appeal made for funds should be made to the Association, which would, if the appeal was considered to be a deserving one, make n donation from this fund. If this .scheme was adopted members of the Association would not eontri-, bate individually to any appeals made. After some little discussion il was decided to bold litis matter over for consideration by n full meeting of members.
