Manawatu Herald TUESDAY, AUGUST 10. 1920. WATER AND DRAINAGE.
THE ‘ boisterous weather, rtilltnr lluni apathy, was probably responsible i'or the small altendaueij of: ratepayers at liio .mooting convened by the* Mayor, and held in the Town Hall last Friday night to dismiss the water and drainage loan proposals. The Mayor (Mr John Ghryslall) is to be congratulated upon the clear'and lucid details of the scheme, which appeared turned; with the almost unanimous approval of (hose present. We may mention that the Mayor has consistently favoured the artesian source of .supply us against the gravitation schenre. which latter would impose too great a, financial strain upon householders. if this scheme had been adopted when the last poll was taken, a considerable saving would have been effected, whereas owing to the two schemes being submitted simultaneously both were jettisoned. On this occasion the ratepayers will vole mi a straight-out issue. The advantages of water am! drainage should be self-evident to every rigid-thinking ratepayer, and it is Imped on tins occasion that (he poll will lie carried by a substantial majority.
