HEART DISEASE.
NO ALARMING INCREASE,
' Some people have been perturbed by what was thought to be a great increase in eases of heart disease. .
The Hon. C. J. Parr (Minister of Public Health) stated this week that from figures supplied by the Government Statistician there did not appear to have been an alarming increase in the number of deaths from organic heart . disease during the
past eight years, the figures being: Per 10,000 Deaths. Population. 1912 1271 12.23 1911 1301 ,11.93 1910 1205 11.51 1918 1369 12.11 1919 1038 13.50
“It is hoped (added the ’Minister) now that the control of the medical inspection of school .children has been placed under the Public Health Department, and the strength of the Department materially increased, it will be possible to pay more attern tion to what is known as preventive medicines than has been possible in the past. This matter, among others, will receive attention.”
