HOCKEY.

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE

The executive of the Horovvhemui Hockey Association mot at Levin on Monday night. The president, Mr W. Broughton, occupied the chair, and the other delegates prescht were Messrs Matheson, Morgan, Williams and Kerslake.

A protest was received from the Te Horo Club against the action of the referee in awarding a penalty bully to Poxton for a breach in the circle, whereby a goal was scored. Mr. P. Woods, reporting on the incident, said in his opinion the breach (“sticks”) was deliberately given, and prevented Poxton from scoring a certain goal. He had previously overlooked a breach by the Te Horo goalkeeper picking up the ball and throwing it out of the circle, for which he should have given a penalty goal.

The meeting agreed that the question was one of fact (as to whether the breach was deliberate or not) and the referee's decision was therefore final.

The secretary reported that Mr McMurray, on behalf of the Poxton team, had offered to play Te Horo, ip order to give (hem satisfaction, under a Palmerston or Wellington referee, each team to pay half the expenses.

Mr'Morgan, the Te Horo delegate, said his team would be very pleased to take up the offer, and expressed appreciation of the sportsmanlike Poxton offer.

The mceling therefore decided to allow the match to he re-played un-r der those conditions at the end of the season, if found necessary. The first round Te Horo-Foxton match,, also ordered to be re-played as the result of a Foxton protest, will lirst he decided under Ilorowhenua refcr-

The Excelsior Club wrote objecting to having to travel to Foxton to play the Foxton team in the second round, as they had played There in the first round, and stating that some of their players refused to travel to Foxton a second time.

The secretary explained that the withdrawal of K.S.A. made it necessary to re-draw the second round. To enable all teams to play home-and-home matches would take two weeks longer', and the drawing made gave each team practically the same amount of travelling. Mr Williams considered it was unfair to ask Excelsior to play their three hardest matches away from home. They also considered the Foxton ground was not tit to play an important match on, -and several Foxton players suggested that the match be shifted to Levin.

Mr Matheson took exception to the implied threat, in the letter regarding players refusing to travel. It was for the Association to say where the matches should be played, and not the clubs. He agreed, however, that the Foxton ground was hardly lit for a game like FoxtonExcelsior.

The chairman said the dm wing appeared to be a fair one, but if the ground was in a bad state it might be as well to play the match in Le-

On Mr motion, .seconded by Hr Morgan, the change of ground was agreed to. The H.S.A. team gave notice of! their withdrawal from the competition. It was decided that any members of the team wishing to play fog other clubs lie given permission to do so. The meeting then adjourned. The Fox ton and Shannon teams were to have met on the local ground yesterday afternoon, but the Shannon players failed to put in an appearance, and Foxtou thus won bv default.
