CHILD WELFARE.

The Prime Minister and Minister of Public Health were interviewed to-day by a deputation of 200 members of the New Zealand Society- lor the Health of Women and Children, with reference to finance and the furtherance of,the work and policy' of the society.
The Prime Minister expressed appreciation of! the work of the Society, mid particularly of Dr. Truhy King. He said that in coming to the Government the Society was coming to a sympathetic' body of men, who were determined and committed to give every possible assistance to the work in hand. He Imped to he able to arrange that so long as Dr. Truby King was prepared to remain in harness, all his time should be given to (he Piunket Society and similar work. There were heavy demands on the Minister for Finance, and he could not say that everything the deputation had asked would be given. He realised, however, that the work of the Society could be done far better by it than by a department of (he Stale, and he was going to take particular care it got its share of any money that was going. The Minister for Health said that important additions had been made to (he Society’s requests, and whether they would be granted rested largely with (he Minister of Finance. The work of the Society was well worth supporting, for if it could save 100 babies a year that was surely worth what it cost to (‘oust met half a mile of railway.
