HOUSE SUSTAINS SPEAKER BY 41 VOTES TO 4.

After the dinner adjournment yesterday, Mr Holland (Builer) moved, as arranged by the Prime Minister during the afternoon sitting, the notice of motion standing in his name: “That Mr Speaker’s ruling that the notice of motion by the member for Builer in favour of self-determination for the Irish people and condemning the'military occupation of Ireland, is not in order, be disagreed with. On a division being taken the motion was defeated by 41 votes to 4. Those voting for the motion were Messrs Holland, Fraser, Parry, and Savage; and Air Fraser (Labour Party whip) stated afterwards that the remaining four official Labour members —Messrs Sullivan, Howard, Bart ram, and McCombe —had paired in favour of it.

The three Independent-Labour members —Messrs Veitch, S. G. Smith, and Keilett —voted with the majority against the motion.
