“Autocar,” “automotor,” and “petrocar” were the names applied to the first motor, vehicles in England, while in the United States “motor-cycle,” auto-cycle,” “horseless carriage,” and “motor waggon” were the terms commonly used to designate the automobile, a name which came into use .at a later date. Few persons realise what a modern convenience is the familiar door. No primitive peoples have, or ever did have, doors; the great temples of Egypt and of Greece had doorways, of course, but no doors. Often there were silks and tapestries hung over the doorways or doors, or gates; but; the door proper is absolutely an improvement, even a luxury, of modern civilisation.
