FOXTON HARBOUR BOARD.
A start has noAv been made Avith the Avork of converting the building at the Foxton wharf recently purchased by the Board from the West Coast Steamship and Trading Co., Ltd. (in liquidation) into a goodsshed, and this will be completed as expeditiously as possible. When completed it will have a floor space of practically 1,200 ft. The Board also intends proceeding immediately Avith the erection of at least one section of the new Avharf and sheds, and it is probable that the second ■section Avill also be gone on Avith when the first is completed. This should give all the storage accommodation that will be required in the immediate future, and as soon as the trade to the port Avarrants it, the third section of the wharf and shed can be proceeded Avith. It is the intention of The Board to invite tenders from merchants for storage space in the buildings at the.-wharf, to be used as distributing stores. A difficulty that has arisen at most ports is the inadequacy of the shed accommodation provided, but Avlien the buildings now authorised are completed the local port Avili be in a better position in this connection than many other ports in the Doming ion.
Most of the timber for the construction of the pontoon to carry the dredge machinery has uoav arrived, and a. start Avith the building of the pontoon Avill he made this week, and it is anticipated the machinery will be installed and the dredge Avill be ready for Avork inside of three months.
