Last night the express from Wellington struck a slip south of Taihape. Some of the passengers Vere thrown from their seats, but no damage was done beyond a 1 burst pipe. The under-carriage and sides of carriages were covered with mud and sand. A big papa rock was jambed in the step of the second carriage. One passenger said that only the speed of the train carried them through.
