LEVIN BAKER FINED £5 AND
COSTS,
H. J. Hughes,' baker, Levin, was charged at the Levin S.M. Court on Thursday, on the information of the police, that he sold on June Bth, 1920, to John Huggins, one fourpound loaf, the Aveight.of which at the time of sale Avas less than it Avas represented to be. , Defendant pleaded .guilty, and said that when the hatch’in question was baked the dough Avas Aveighed out with the usual quantity over to alloAv for evaporation in order to bring the loaves to the correct Aveight Avhen baked. Defendant had considerable difficulty with his oven, which was out of repair, and the bread had to he left in the oven half an hour longer than the time usually occupied, Avhich would naturally evaporate a greater proportion of moisture and lighten the bread.
His Worship entered a conviction, and fined defendant £5 and costs 7s,
