OVERHANGING TREES.

At last night’s Council meeting the Inspector of Nuisances reported that owners of trees overhanging the footpaths had been notified to out same back, and that in a number of eases nothing had been done (o comply with the notice. The Inspector recommended that in these cases the Council should undertake the work and charge Iho cost of satpc to the owners concerned. The recommendation was adopted. Mr E. J. Martin wrote, complaining about the high trees opposite his residence in the Avenue, which kept (he sun off his property, and , also was the cause of the road and groof same as a woorwork class need und in the vicinity being in a continually wet stale during the winter. —It was decided that notice be served under the provisions of Section 14ti of the Public Works Act and Amendments, on the owners of trees which overshadow the Avenue to have such trees cut down to within 15ft. of the ground, Vithin two months of the service of such notice.

Cr. Coley said that some years ago the Council decided to call upon the owners of the property in the Avenue to have the trees cut down, but at the next meeting some pressure was brought to bear, and as a result of same the previous motion was rescinded.
