ROYAL PICTURES.
Carlyle Blackwell plays the dual role of Cal Douglas, a rough-and-ready young fellow brought up in Hell’s Kitchen, and his cousin, Anthony Hopkins, a rich and cultured youth, in the star him to he presented to-night. The villain, Nichols, lias swindled both branches of the family, and when the cousins meet they determine to get a proper revenge. For this reason they exchange places, Cal assuming the role of Anthony, upon whom Nichols has further designs at the moment. The ruse proves successful, and in the end they bring Nichols to time. The cousins exchange sweethearts, with, general satisfaction to both girls. Marion is delighted with the cultured ways of Anthony, and quickly suspects that it is not Cal, though the resemblance is absolute; Olive, on the other hand, falls in love with Cal’s courage and business ability. The scenes carry a good contrast in conditions of life in two sections of the metropolis.
Mildred Harris, now Mrs Charlie Chaplin, is one of the youngest stars on the screen. She will he seen in her third Lois Weber picture on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. It is entitled “For Husbands Only,” and exclusive as the title may sound, it is intended for the entire family, and particularly for wives who cany a lingering spark of interest in their heart for former suitors. Toni, piqued at the unsatisfactory ending of her love affair with D’Arey, .married Dodge. D’Arey, then realising that he really wants her, schemes to destroy Dodge’s faith and force Toni to return to him. He stages a play in his private theatre, in which the characters are recognisable as himself, Toni and Dodge, the worst explanation being given to Toni’s conduct. Dodge is invited to wilncss the play, and D’Arey, during the performance goes to Toni, tells her what he has done, and that Dodge’s love for her has been destroyed. Toni realises she cares for Dodge, Just then he D’Arcy asks how he liked the play. Pe declines to discuss it, pleading that his wife is tired,'and .D’Arey leaves. Then . But to tell what happened next would spoil your interest in the denouement.
