Applications by Charles Wat-kin*, Robert Bryant and Arthur 0, Oliver for renewal of slaughterhouse licenses were approved and forwarded to the Agricultural Department. ENGINEER’S REPORT. The engineer reported as follows : Kawa Kawa Riding. —As authorised by Councillors Boyce and Barber, I have arranged to grade oft the rise on the Pahnerston-Eoxton road near the Rangiotu hall, for the sum of £42. The contract includes grading, widening, soiling, and metalling about 4 chains of road. Awahou Riding—As requested by the Council, I met the ratepayers interested in the proposal to raise a loan for the purpose of forming and metalling approximately one mile of the road known as Spring’s road. After some little discussion on the matter, it was decided to form a special rating district, including the following ratepayers: Messrs C. A. Spring, F. Bryant, AT. McSaveney, and a portion of Messrs Stevens, Easton and Austin’s property for the purpose of raising a loan of £BOO to construct about one mile of Spring’s road. I have made an inspection of the sharp turn immediately over the Government drain on
the Whirokino road, and to improve the road at this point I would suggest the road be constructed close to the fence on the opposite side of the road line for a distance of 8 or 10 chains. This would allow the traffic to approach the bridge on a curve similar to those along this road. My estimate of the cost for this work is approximately £6O. TRAMWAY REPORT. The tramway manager reported that the chief items of traffic daring the past month were; —Merchandise 1271 tonsj minerals and manure 2071 tons, chaff 3!) trucks, sheep 24 trucks, timber 20,300 feet, metal 010 cubic yards. Fares amounted to £5 2s 2d. The accounts showed a debit balance of £SO 14s lid for the month.
