The local Salvation Army Band and. the Maori. Choir journeyed to Bedding on Thursday evening last, where a very successful concert was held on behalf of the Bedding Corps. The Drill Thill, in which the i om-ert was held, was tilled, and the enthusiasm with which the various items were received evidenced the pleasure of those present. The playing of the iltiiul was most favourably commented on, and the cormd solo by Master iron. Ebbelt was specially well received. Captain Coffin desires to thank Mr Ellers and members of the Maori Choir for their kindness in accompanying the Band.
At a largely attended meeting nt Levin on Thursday night, a Chamber of Commerce was formed, of which .Mr J. A. Haswcll wa> elected president. The other officers are; Vice-presidents, Messrs C. 11. The depredations of small birds in. the spring on rows of young peas or early lettuce have always been difficult to counteract. A sovereign remedy against these attacks (says the Ashbifrton Guardian) is employed by the gardener at the County Hospital. Representatives of no less than three generations of one family were in the air at Gisborne one day recently in the de Haviland aeroplane belonging to I bo New Zealand Flying School. The passengers in question comprised Mrs Tucker, sen., a lady of 70 years of age; her daughter. Mrs Tucker, widow of the late Captain Tucker, and her sou, Master Tucker. The lasi-named made his third (light in the machine.
