Walter Andrews, motor mechanic, said that judging by the damage done to (he cars, and assuming' that the deceased, Eglinion, was travelling at 25 miles per hour, Xewth must have been travelling 45 miles an hour.
J. R. Perry, president of the .Motor Oarage Proprietors’ Association of Xew Zealand, said that Kglinlon’s was the most seriously-dam-aged ear as the result; of a collision he had ever seen. He estimated that X'ewth’s speed must have been from 45 to 50 miles per hour.
Accused pleaded not guilty, reserved his defence, and was committed for trial at the next sitting of the Palmerston North Supreme Court, which opens on August 10th. Bail was allowed.
