CHARGE OF MURDER.
Dunedin, July 2
Circumstances concerning the death of Olive May Pile, aged 20 years, who was found dead in a house in South Dunedin occupied by Helen Glegg, wore inquired into at the Police Court to-day, when the woman Glegg was charged with the murder of the girl in question. The evidence included that of Thomas Bnrdctt, a surfaceman employed by the Railway Department, residing at Onmarn, who said that he met the deceased seven or eight months ago and went out with her several times. About four or five weeks ago deceased and her father saw witness, and a few days after witness came to ’Dunedin. He got deceased the next day, and proceeded to the accused’s house.' Accused asked what (hey were going to do. He told accused he did not care about the cost; he was prepared to pay. She replied that it would cost £2O. Vvitness paid her, and witness look his departure, leaving the girl in the house. Ho returned to Onmarn, and the following Monday received a telegram from Dunedin; “All well M. Pile.” lie also received a letter from May Pile. He destroyed the telegram and letter, and went to Dunedin and visited the accused's house, and found the girl had been dead about an hour. Accused told witness to gel away as quickly as possible, and not say anything ahout it.
Evidence was given by sixteen witnesses, after winch counsel for accused intimated that he would reserve his defence. Accused was committed for trial on both charges,
