REDUCTIONS AND REASONS
The Christchurch Sun, in the course of an article on a possible decline in prices generally, says certain e-hisses of goods have heen marked down in price in some of the retail and wholesale houses in the city, but it is rather problematical whether this action has heen in flu-c-nc6d to’ any great extent by overseas conditions. Recent proseculions by the Price; investigation Tribunals have iiad an elfoe-t. One merchant frankly admitted Hi at he* had cut down the price in ihe case of a few lines for this rea>on; “but,” he staled, “1 do not admit inv profits were too high under (lie e-ire-muslaru-es. I’m simply not I'.repaved to accept the risk ol defending a prosecution, even although I know I would lie successful. The effect is I will not bather about importing certain films, and I think you will find (his altitude reflected elsewhere.”
