THE GERM-PROOF MAN.
CLAIMS OF A REFORMER WHO LIVES ON UNCOOKED FOOD. London, April 15. Will man revert to the simple dietary of greenstuff's that satisfied him in orhoreal days? Mr William Aird, of Sampling, Sussex, who falls himself ‘‘the (ierin-Froor Man,” and who firmly believes that uncooked fare is the food of the future, is lecturing this week at the Balm Saloon of Shearn’s Restaurant, Tottenham Court Road, to demonstrate the benetils of the simple life, and prior to the lecture a dinner is given to convince the audience of its pleasures and advantages. A Daily News representative was one of a small party who were last night initiated into the fascinations of uncooked food. At first some of the guests had difficulty in distinguishing between the (able decorations and the food, but they enjoyed a lory daintily served repast. A CURIOUS 'MENU. Tim menu consisted of:— .Prelude: Salade a la Russe, com posed of lettuce, tomato stuffed' with, grated cheese and ground nuts, encumber stuffed with cream and pine kernels, apples and onions. Main Theme: Salade du prinlomps, which included grated earrot. tomato, chopped lettuce, waler-cie-.s, onion, etc. Finale: Salade de Fruit a la Costala, in which pineapple, sliced grapes, orange, grape-fruit, ground niffs, and whipped cream could be discerned. Mr Aird said he had called the meal (he Food of the: Future, because there were difficulties which prevented it becoming the presentday food. One had to prepare oneself gradually for the simple life. The guests would probably 1 eel tilled, but not saiistied. because tiiey were not. ncelimalised. ills theory was that everybody inherited his maximum amount of energy at birth, and that could not he increased, although by a wrong dietary and bad habits it could bo decreased. Food’s (unction was merely to bring our stock of energy hack to par, or nearly there. Mr Aird described a series of experiments he had been pal ihrongn at Guy',-- Hospital, where 29 minutes after a meal the doctors used a stomach pump upon him, in the interests of experimental rcwarcli — he being a willing subject. .Mr Aird claimed to he germ proof, lie had inoculated himself with all sorts of germs, from diphtheria and anthrax to cancel' and tuberculosis, without taking any harm, and he was prepared to do so again at any lime. Housewives will envy Mrs Aird. She told The Daily News that, as she laid no cooking to do, her household worries had disappeared. Although she tirsl thought her husband a crank when lie started the experiments, she will never return to the cooking days.
