PATRIOTIC SOCIETY.
The monthly meeting of the local Patriotic Society was held on Thursday evening. Present: Hov. W. Paine (president), in the chair, Mrs Me Murray, and Messrs Barber'. Cirryslall, G. Huntley, Mv.Murray, and Shaw.
A fairly lengthy list ol applications for assistance were received and dealt with. Jrr one. ease a grant of .€(> per month was made for a period of six months. two eases were referred to the Repatriation Department, and the consideration of three other applications were adjourned in order to allow the secretary to obtain further particulars.
At the conclusion of the business the president (Rev. M. Haim-) said that, as he was leaving Foxton earlier than he had anticipated, this Would be the las! meeting be would be able to attend, and he therefore tendered his resignation. Mr liaine said that he had been connected with the Society since its inception. Mr Chrystall said that the members of the Society were sorry that they were losing the services of Mr Raiue, who had always taken a very keen interest in its affairs, and they were losing a good man. Mr Chrystall said he would reserve any further remarks in reference to Mr Kaine until a later occasion. Messrs Barber and McMurray also spoke in eulogistic terms of the services rendered to the Society by -Mr Raitie.
Mr W. E. Barber was elected to the position of president.
