The New York World publishes a telegram from Washington staling that Alareellus Parsons and other passengers on (he Ventura telegra--phod to the State Department, asserting that Archbishop Alannix (of Melbourne) failed to stand while the “Star Spangled Banner” was being played aboard the Ventura in Honolulu harbour. It is understood the matter is being investigated. Avch.bishop Mannix’s version of (he incident has not yet been received.

The New York World publishes a later despatch from Washington stating that the British Government has asked Rome to dissuade Archbishop Alannix from visaing Ireland. The prelate’s refusal to stand when the “Star Spangled Banner” was being played aboard the Ventura at Honolulu was confirmed by other Australians.

There' is a movement to secure Archbishop Mannix’s succession to Cardinal Logue as Primate of Ireland.

At San Francisco Archbishop Mannix said he believed the “Star Spangled Banner’' was an English anthem because he thought he heard Englishmen singing it. Therefore, he declined to stand.
