SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The ordinary mooting of the local Stain School Committee was held last night. Present: Messrs Hornblow (ejminnan), Claris (secretary), G. Coley, J. Ross, P. Robinson, G. Alexander, W r . Petrie, and M. Pcrrean, and the head teacher. An apology was received from Air Stevenson. Outward correspondence was read and, approved. Inward correspondence was read from the Board re handing over control of the old teacher's residence. The Chairman said repeated application had boon made for the rental of this building, but the Board bad declined. It was decided to thank the Board for the extra revenue from this source, which would be required to meet increased maintenance. The Board also intimated that Tire beating at the school would be attended to as soon as the apparatus came to hand) and that it was hoped to have all the seating supplied within a month, the cause of delay being the shortage of dry timber for this work; the architect has bad the matter of gas installation under consideration. The treasurer reported that there was a credit of £74 4s 5d to the general account, and £l9O lls Sd in the re-equip-ment account. A large number of accounts were scrutinised and passed for payment, it was decided to again approach the Council in reference to a reduction in the sanitary charges. Resolved that future .meetings be held in the school. Correspondence was received from Air Ed. Newman, ALP., and the Mon. Parr, Minister for Education, re opening of new school, stating that a date would lie lixed prjor to the opening of Parliament. It was decided to send a letter of thanks to Messrs A. and T. Burt for .the donation of a bell for Ihe school, and Mr ,]. Ross was instructed to erect same. Tin* bead teacher’.-, report was read and adopted/ 11 was decided to purchase door mats for the new school, and to ask the Board to provide screens to protect the children from draughts in the-corri-dor. The head teacher was authorised to procure several articles for school use. It was resolved to get tiic hedges clipped, and Air Robinson was authorised to have the tennis court top-dressed. The secretary was instructed to send a letter of thanks to Messrs Collirmon and Cunninghamc for a generous gift of 14 Hags of the allied mil ions. Resolved to meet at I lie school at 2.90 on Monday afternoon, when an inspection will he made and other requirements looked into.
