FLOODS IN THE NORTH.
MAIN TRUNK TRAFFIC SUSPENDED. Te Kuiti, Yesterday, Heavy floods occurred on Saturday night. The river through the town has overflowed, and a largo area is inundated. Slips on the main roads have isolated the town. -They'are being cleared. The express got through on Sunday night, but a sudden rise of the water early on Monday morning blocked the early trains. Minor slips to (he south have been removed. There was damage in the shops by the flood water, The flood is receding, but the sky is overcast. Tanmarunui, Yesterday. On Saturday and Sunday heavy rain Hooded the Wanganui and Ongahic Rivers, the Hoods being the highest for four years. Both rivers are Hooded from bank to bank. There has been a fair amount of: erosion, Iml nothing serious. The new tratlii* bridge and protective works over (he Wanganui River stood the test well.' At the boatlanding the Ongarue was nine feet above, the ordinary water-mark, and it is doubtful if the riverboat Avill go down to-day. It is reported that there is twenty-six feet of extra water at the houseboat. She is now anchored over the flower beds.Auckland, Yesterday. Heavy rain caused landslips on the Main Trunk railway, particularly between To Awamutn and Otofolianga. The express trains to-day did not run beyond Fraukton and Te A wamutu. There are also slips on the Rotorua and Thames lines.
