FOOTBALL.

The* junior match, Foxton v. Knputaroa, played on Easton Park on .Saturday, proved a cake-walk for the local team. Neither team, however, showed any brilliant combination. This failure was more evidenced on the part of the visitors, who were playing an individualisticgame. Read, Moses and- Baker of tire local combination, did the star work, and used their wits, Robinson, in the forwards, is a hefty and willing lad. With a little coaching in the finer points of tjic game the loeal juniors should be able to more than bold their own on any field.

One noticeable feature of the local game on Saturday was the splendid spirit and good-fellowship among the players, and an entire absence of roughness or wrangling. AVe hope our. juniors will continue to maintain (his sportsmanlike spirit. Excitable barrackers are sometimes responsible for inciting players to roughness. Several old Rugbyilcs were interested spectators at Saturday's local match.' Among them lire writer noticed the Robinson Bros., “Trooper” Robinson, Lem. Furric, Frank Spiers, Constable AA'oods, Desmond (the juniors’ enthusiastic “coach"),-Bullard (of Melrose fame), and Hornblow, Several ladies were also interested spectators.

Neville, the referee, controlled the game very satisfactorily, and is shaping well in this conned ion. Easton Park is going to develop into a line playing field, and is centrally situated. The football Held, however, Avill require a lot of work in (he way of levelling. The depressions make it difficult for fast open play. When it is ploughed and levelled and sown down it should make one of the best football grounds in the district. SATURDAY'S RESULTS. SENIOR. Wanderers 42, Tokoiuaru 3. Knkn 3, Shannon 0. Hui Mai 24, Foxton 0. JUNIOR. , , Wanderers 8, Olaki 0. Foxton 20. Koputaroa 0. Knkn 5, Hui Mai 0. Waikanao 11, Shannon 0.

WANDERERS v. TOKOMARU. The Wanderers met Toko’mnru on the hitler’s ground, and scored the substantial win of 42 points to 3. The "Wanderers showed their best football to dale, most of their score coining as a result of good passing play. The ball was thrown about in good style, in which the forwards freely participated, the game showing- that the winners are rapidly nearing the top of their form. Though beaten, the Toko hoys put up a good light. They are nearly all young players, are keen on the game, and possess the right qua li-lies,-with experience, to develop into first-class players, Mr J. O’Connor, of Levin, was the referee.

KUKU v. SHANNON

This match was played at -Shannon, the Knkn boys registering a win by 3 to 0. It proved a solid go from start to finish, there being very little between the merits of the teams. The return match should he worth seeing. lIUI MAI v. FOXTON,

This game was played at Manakau. In the first spell the contest was very even, Foxton playing uphill, holding their own well, and at half-time the score read Hui Alai 3 Foxton 0. Up till then the game had been confined absolutely to the forwards, in which department Foxton was slightly superior to their opponents. Shortly after the commencement of the second spell Foxton’s half, Hunt, wps put on the line for rough play, and the team then went to pieces, and Hui Alai put on several scores in quick succession, the final total being 24 to nil.

JUNIOR

The Foxton juniors added another

scalp to their belt ■ when they defeated Koputaroa by 20 points to nil. In the forward play the Kopnlaroa hoys could just about hold their own with the local team, and in the scrums were much superior, getting the ball on almost every oc-

casioii. When the Foxton backs got the hall, however, there was something doing, a very fine display of this department of the game being given. From present indications it appears that Waikauae is the only .junior (cam that will have a chance of extending -he Foxton boys.
