BOROUGH COUNCIL.

SPECIAL MEETING

A special meeting of the Eoxton Borough Council was held last night for the purpose of receiving applications for the position of gas manager, and general. There were present; The Mayor (Mr J. Chrystall), and Crs. Coley, Walker, Bryant, McMurray, Rand, Hunt, Parkin, and Pearson.

GAS MANAGER

For the position of gas works manager five applications were received, and these were dealt with in Committee. The Council eventually appointed Mr A.. Kennorly to the position. Mr Kennedy is a married man, 24 years of age, and is at present employed at the Paeroa gas works. Prior to that he was working at the Waihi works. Mr Kennerly takes up his duties in Foxton on the 21st instant. FENCING.

Three tenders were received for erecting (labour only) 37 chains of fencing on tire Target Reserve, and that of Messrs Kinley and Enlwi.stle, at (is !)d per chain, was accepted.

EASTON PARK,

The Mayor stated that Mr Black, of Palmerston North, had visited Foxton on Friday last, and in company with-members of tire Reserves Committee bad made an inspection of Easton Park, with a view to submitting a. scheme for laying out same. The Mayor said that before .submitting a scheme Mr Black wanted to know just what use the Council intended making of the ground, whether it was intended to continue playing football there or not. After some discussion it was considered that if.the ground was to Ire used for football there would be very little room for anything else, and it ■was decided not to have a football ground on same. It was resolved to ask Mr Black to px’ovide for tennis courts and ('roquet lawns on tire Park, and the balance to lie laid out. in llower beds, shrubs and paths. As soon as Mr Black’s recommendations are received a start will lie made on the ground.

The ornamental fencing for the Park has arrived, and is now in the Council yard, and a commencement with the erection of same will be made as soon as cement is available;
