Manawatu Herald SATURDAY, MAY 29, 1920. RAISING THE RENT.
AN important, decision was given in the Wellington S.M. Court on Thursday, under the ‘‘War Regulation Act, 1910,” concerning the rent of a house property. Under the Act p Magistrate can'fixe the rent, which must not exceed 8 per cent, of the capital value. Evidence was 'given on behalf of the Valuation Department, showing that the property in question was valued at £833 as at August 4th, 1914, and in April last id £903. The owner of the premises stated that she had paid £1,150 tor the properly recently, and since it had come into her possession had expended the sum of £lB2 on repairs. The Magistrate determined the capital value in accordance with the Valuation Department’s figures, and the rent was fixed accordingly.
