RACING.
The Dunedin Jockey Chth has Tor several years given notice of motion at th.e meetings of the N.Z., Racing Conference to alter the minimum weigh! in handicap Hal races from list. 71h. to 7st., and propose to move in the same' direction at the next animal conference. This club Ims for over three years adopted the 7st. minimum in their programmes, and the resulting experience bus convinced them that the reform should be made eouumlsory by the rules of racing. The secretary says: —
“Reasons in its favour arc overwhelming am] undeniable, ami. as no sound argument has so far been advanced against it, it is evident that its reject ion a.s a rule of racing !:as been caused by the apathy of the conference,,rather than on account of its undesirability.” The club has issued to the Press a pamphlet setting forth some of the recent published arguments in favour of the proposition, and trust Unit interest in the question will become so general that the Racing- Conference will he converted to its adoption, or that to ret a. in the confidence of the racing public they will be compelled to announce their reasons for its rejection.
