The rogue of the story is .Picard, one ol the most: famous characters in French criminal history, and in his impersonal loti of this character Earle Williams does some brilliant work. The story itself is intensely dramatic, and developed with a tine vein of sentiment, to the point where the master crook, to win Ins wife, turns detective, and outwits a gang of swindlers. ______
