BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY.

A meeting of the Committee 1 of the Beautifying Society was held on Wednesday. Tilth May, in the Council Chambers. There were present Mesdames I' 1 . Robinson, McMurray, Patterson, •). 11. Robinson, Moore, Messrs Perreau, Raine, Halliday, Moorbouse, and Trueman. Apologies were received from members übsonl through sickness. The following resolution*, were passed:— That the Borough Council be written to, suggesting that Easton Park be fenced, ploughed, and levelled as soon as possible, so as not to miss the planting season this vear.

That the Council ask Mr Black, of Palmerston North, to visit Koxton, to advise upon the laying out of the grounds. That Mr Leigh Hunt be written to. inviting him to give a lecture' 1 in Koxton on Town-planning. Discussions about various places that required attention took place. One member wanted to know why cows where still allowed (o graze l in Easton Park. It was pointed out that practically nothing could be done till the ground was fenced. The old cemetery at the north, end of .Main Street, was quoted as an eyesore,, to the town. This was also said to be receiving the attention of the Borough Counc.il. It is the property of Natives, and the Council is endeavouring to secure it, and cannot do anything to i( till they have control of it. The laying out of the park was discussed, as to wind games the 1 area of ’ground would allow.

'- All those who have any interest n collection with the beautifying of lie borough are asked to become members of the Society. The annul I subscription is only 2s (id, in irder to secure a good number of members. Ways and means of raisng money will liave to be discussed, is a good deal will be necessary for the first two or three years to get die grounds laid out. After that, he only expense will lie the upkeep. The next meeting will be held on June 2nd.
