ILLEGALLY ON LICENSED PREMISES.

NINE OFFENDERS CONVICTED

At yesterday’s sitting of the Magistrate’s Court, before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., charges of being found on licensed premises without lawful excuse when such premises are required by law to be closed, were preferred against the following; Charles Hunt and John McDowell, being found in the Manawatu Hotel about 9 p.m. on Saturday, May Ist: Percy Coley, John O’Reilly and Arthur Tollison, found in the Manawatu Hotel about 8.20 p.m. on Saturday, May Bth; Frank Moffatt, Joseph. Telford and Harry Hartley, found in the Family Hotel at 8 p.m. on Saturday, May Blh, and Fred Robinson, found in the Manawatu Hotel on the afternoon of Sunday, May 9th. None of the defendants appeared at the Court. The police slated that when caught not one of the defendants could give any excuse for bein" on the premises.

The Magistrate said this class of offence seemed to he getting quite common in Foxton, and he would therefore increase the penalty. Each defendant was convicted and lined £2, with costs 7s each.
