LAND VALUES.
AN interesting table in the current official “Monthly Abstract of Statistics” shows that since 1910 the ■unimproved value of the land of the Dominion lias increased from £175,289,861 to £275,812,731 in 1919 an increase of over 100 millions Sterling in the nine years, or at the rale of more than ten millions per annum. In • the same period the capital value of the land (iand%ud improvements combined) has increased from £277,630,083 to £445,272,615, or by some 167 millions sterling. In each case, hy far the greater part of the increase has taken part in the North Island —the unimproved values increasing, roughly,'"by 70 millions (104 to 174 millions) in the North Island, as against 30 millions (71 millions to 101 millions) iu the South Island; Avtiile the capital value increased by 121 millions (165 millions to 256 millions) in the North Island, as Compared with 46 millions (113 millions to 159 millions) in the South. Comparing boroughs and town districts with counties, the increase in unimproved values in the nine years lias been some 24 millions (50,729,I*ll to £75,038,4367 in the former, as against 76 millions £124,560,720 to £200,774,295) iu the latter. In' capital values the increase has been some 54 millions (£99,928,464 to £154,480,033) in towns and cities, as against 113 millions (£177,701,619 to £290,792,582) in the counties.
