RED SHIELD CLUB.
On the night of .the recent fir« in Main Street, when, among others, Mr Perrcau’s property was destroyed, Captain Coffin, supervisor of the Red Shield' Club, offered to vacate the building then occupied by the Club so that same could be used, by Mr Perrcau us a dwelling. The offer was gladly availed of, and the Club was closed temporarily. The question of obtaining a suitable building ‘in which to re-bpen has been engaging the attention of the Supervisor and Board of Management since, and at a meeting hold last night the matter was fully discussed. All present agreed lha,t during its existence the Club had filled a long-felt Avant in the community, and that every effort should he made to continue same. With the experience gained during the six months that the Club was conducted those at the head of the institution would now be m a position to extend the scope of its usefulness. Inquiries are being made for suitable accommodation, and if this is available a scheme will be placed before the public for the future working of the institution. A further meeting is to be held at an early date to receive the report of the sub-committee appointed.
