MOTOR ACCIDENT.
ON FOXTON-LEVIN ROAD. A motor accident occurred on the Foxton-Levin road, about a mile from the AVhirokino Bridge, shortly before 5 o’clock on Saturday night, ),ut fortunately was not attended by any fatal results.. A taxi car from Napier, containing eight passengers and the driver, was proceeding to Wellington, and on reaching the turn in the road round the hill about a mile from the..bridge, met another car driven by Mr Nesbitt, of I 1 oxlon. Mr Nesbitt was on the correct side of the road, and close into the bank. In attempting to pass, the Napier car driver swerved the car, with the result that it overturned and caught lire. The passengers, in (he back of the ear were pinned underneath, and had it not been for-the prompt action of the others present the results would have been ranch more serious. The flames were quickly got under, and the passengers afterwards extricated. It was found that two ladies and a gentleman were rather badly hurt, the others escaping uninjured, and these were brought ' into Foxton by Mr. Nesbitt for medical attention. It was found that Mr Faulds, a resident of Gisborne, had both collar bones broken. Miss Etherton, of Wellington, had received some very nasty cuts about the face, and Mrs E. M. Lucas, of Napier, who was one of those pinned under the car, was severely bruised. Both ladies weie also suffering very considerably After being attended in by Dr. Mandl, the sufferers were removed to the Palmerston Hospital. The ear had the hood and windscreen.broken off, the steering wheel broken, and all the wiring burnt. It was towed info Foxton for repairs.
