A MAORI’S ERROR.
VINEGAR MISTAKEN FOR BEER. DEMIJOHN THAT DISAPPEARED At the Wanganui Magistrate's Court tins week, before Mr W’yvern Wilson, S.M., a Maori named Mack Warcta was charged with stealing a demijohn of two gallons of vinegar, valued at 15s, the property of Dickenson and Harper, of Horded. The police said the demijohn was removed off the coach while .on the way to Horded. His Worship; Was it a case of mistaken identity? (Laughter). The police: Yes, ho thought he was stealing a jar of beer. His Worship: Wed, 1 hope he took a good drink of it when he got home. The defendant said he took the demijohn in mistake along with his luggage. His Worship (to defendant) : Did you have a demijohn in your luggage, or did you mistake it for a suit ease?
Defendant did not offer any opinion, and his Worship added that it would probably be a lesson and a disappointment to him. A line of £2 and £2 13s costs was imposed.
