THE PRINCE'S VISIT.

ADDRESSES OF WELCOME. The following address of welcome was presented by the Prime Minister on behalf of the Government to the Prince of Wales, on his arrival in Auckland last Saturday:

“We His Majesty’s Ministers, on behalf of the Parliament and people of New Zealand, desire to offer to Your -Royal Highness a sincere and cordial welcome. We assure Your Royal Highness that all of us recognise that the visit of the Heir to the Throne of the great Empire.of which we arc part is an event of real public importance, and a testimony of the interest with which His

Majesty regards his most distant possession. Only eighty years have passed since the first emigrant from the Mother Country, under an ordered system of government, landed on our shores. Throughout the years since that foundation the people of New Zealand have continued loyal subjects of the Crown. But, never in our brief history has personal regard for the Sovereign and Royal Family been greater with us than to-day; never was there a

stronger sense of the, value of the King to the Empire; Aon, yourself, sir, have borne your full share of the dangers and sorrows of the recent years, and our soldiers, who know your service, have claimed everywhere to be amongst the first to welcome you. “We are confident that your visit will be of advantage to (his Dominion, and we hope that in years to come Your Royal Highness will have none but happy memories of your stay and travel amongst its people. “Signed on behalf of His Majesty’s Ministers for the Dominion of New Zealand, this 21th day of April, 1020. “W. V. MASSEY, “Prime Minister.” The address, which is very beautifully illuminated, is.surrounded by a, dark border representing Maori carvings, and inset in the border are sketches of some of the finest and most, striking bits of New Zealand scenery, the whole rellecling great credit on the artist responsible for the work, Mr W. R, Bock. A silver cylinder bearing (he Prince of Wales' crest in gold, is to contain the address; a handsome casket of Now Zealand woods will in turn conlain the cylinder.
