HOUSING RELIEF.
SOME GOVERNMENT FIGURES. In connection with the housing scheme, the Prime Minister (Right Hon. W. F. Massey) announced this week that the Government, through the Slate Advances Department, during the quarter ended 31st March hist, had authorised the granting of applications from 303 settlers (amounting in value to £152,000), and to workers of 478 applications, (re-„ presenting £200,015), for the purpose of building houses and completing the purchase of properties. , In addition to these advances, an amount of £15,12$ had been authorised to settlers for the purpose of releasing mortgages on house properties. Applications, amounting to £206,000, had been received by the Stale Advances Department from 37 local bodies throughout the Dominion under the'Housing Act, 1910, and these applications were now being dealt' with. .Vs soon as tlie necessary formalities provided hy law had been complied with hy the local bodies it was probable that all the applications would 1)0 approved.
