Manawatu Herald THURSDAY, APRIL 8. 1920. SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTION
THE annual meeting of householders for the purpose of electing a School Committee for the ensuing twelve months will be held next Monday night week. From a strictly legal point of view last year’s election was irregular, and an application to the Supreme Court would have voided the proceedings. This, however, would probably have resulted in stirring up more bitterness in the community. The general public are now in possession of all the facts, and are sick of the fiasco. The regrettable thing about the whole business is that it may have the effect of shutting out from educational matters men best qualified to serve on the committee. Care must be taken, however, at the coming householders’ meeting to avoid a recurrence of any irregularities. There is much important work aliead for the incoming Committee to attend to, and it is sincerely to be hoped the householders will select men to represent them who have the educational welfare of the children at heart, and who can look beyond the village pump.
