“Unexpected Places,” to he screened to-night, is a timely and highly original picture, in which Bert Lytell is al his host. The story revolves around the exciting adventures of a newspaper reporter, who uncovers an important phase of Herman spy work in America. Dick Howley, the reporter, is investigating the death of the valet of Lord Vardon, who is in this country on a secret mission for the British Mar Commission. Vardon has been poisoned hy a clique of the Kaiser’s a,ids, amt through his death Dick comes into some valuable papers. By a clever ruse, the reporter lumps the papers from the hands of the enemy, upsets a hot-bed of the; Herman spy system, and pats over one of the biggest stories in the history of metropolitan journalism. Incidentally, he wins the girl of his choice and a SIO,OOO Job. On Saturday night a special double holiday programme wilt he screened. The two star pictures arc "The Pest,” featuring Mabel Norrna.nd, and “A Pair of Silk Stockings,” st.-irring Constance Tahnadge and Harrison Ford. “The Pest" is the latest Holdwyn feature, and is full of the most delightful comedy, besprinkled with touches of pathos. “The Pest” is no doubt deserving of her name, from the antics she gets up to, and .Mabel shows a return to her old Keystone form, both in costume and acting. .Dressed mostly in idne dungarees, she is a whole-souled mirth-provider through live reels of ridiculous situations, arid whether in the bathing scene 1 , her hath being a water barrel, or in the ballroom, where she enters in the latest gown (with her dungarees on underneath).
Tied up with his wife's silk stockings, and locked in the bathroom, is where the . unfortunate husband lands in “A Pair of Silk Stockings,” the select drama featuring Constance Talmadge. “A Pair of Silk Stockings” ran on the stake for two successful years in London, followed by a season at Winthrop Ames’ Little Theatre in New York, and two more full seasons on the road. Similar success awaits it on the screen with its popular star, Constance Talmadge. On Monday another special holiday programme will be submitted, a William Fox film being the star item, which should be sufficient guarantee of excellence. The title of the story is.“On the Jump,” and the leading role is taken, by George Walsh.
