ROYAL PICTURES.
An unique dramatic offering himes forward in “The Whirl of Lift',” showing at’tbe Royal to-night.- This is lh(‘ read life story of Irene Vernon Castle and her husband, Captain Vernon Castle: She was ihe daughter of well-to-do parents, and her runaway match and its subsequent strange results are woven into a most fascinating romance. The couple, after (heir Parisian success, opened in New York, and were bitterly opposed hy an opposition show company, who stnek at no villainy to prevent tiie dancing pair having a successful first night. The dancing scenes in the film are little short of marvellous, particularly , (hose shown at “Castles-by-lhe-Sea," ihe luxurious dancing palace which the Castles built at (lie seaside in Xew York, and which became the rendezvous of all the Yankee capital's millionairedom. There is also shown a ■ j .inini and clever short film of the adventures of Egnerl AleWowse, who went to a dancing' party to put down the evils which he imagined existed there. Tie think's the Jazz is something to drink', but soon gets undeceived. William Russell is afforded ample opportunity to display bis fistic as well as his histrionic abilities,in the latest feature issued hy Ids own company, “Up Romance Road,” to he shown on Monday. The picture is well named, for it shows Russell from a youngster, always hankering after the romantic and adventurous, lie is ably assisted hy Charlotte Burton, and between them they pul! off an abduction slant to fool the girl’s l‘:ither, which well nigh proves disastrous. The caste is cleverly selected, the continuity of the story is good, the direction and photography excellent. On Saturday next, “The Exploits of U-35,” the film that was captured from the Germans, will be shown.
