CONFERENCE TO BE HELD.

»Tho question of the supply and distribution of electric energy from the Mangahao was considered at Saturday’s meeting of the Horowhenua County Council, when a report was submitted by the Council’s special committee (Crs. Monk, Broadbelt and Harkuess) as follows: — (1) That the Council authorise the calling of a conference of local bodies for the purpose of considering the advisability or otherwise of forming an electric power district under the “Electric Power Boards Act, 1918.” (2) That say two delegates from the following local authorities he invited to attend such conference: Foxton, Levin, and Shannon boroughs; Otaki Town Board and the Manawatu and Hull counties. (3),That the Public Works Department be asked to allow one of its officers |p attend the proposed conference. (4) That the date of the proposed conference he Saturday, April.24th, 1920, at 11 a.m. The Chairman (Cr. Monk) said the Shannon Dairy Company had written asking what steps the Council was taking to get power from the Mangahao, as the Company would require a .lot of power. Tito Foxton Borough Council had also written on the matter, and the Council’s Committee considered the calling of a conference of public bodies was the best thing'in the circumstances, Cr. Harkuess supported Hie calling of the conference, as electric power was going to he a boon to the district. They- should not miss the opportunity of getting their application in early, as they wanted to be among the first to get power from this source. On the motion of (he Chairman, ihc report was adopted, and the Chairman and .Crs. Broadbclt and Harkuess were appointed to represent (he Council at I lie Conference.
