RISE NOT COX Kill MFD. PRICES STILE FXDER CONSIDERATION. The Prime Minister conferred with mem tier's of the Hoard ol 1 rade and some Departmental officers on Tuesday regarding the price oi Hour and bread. He inlormed a Dominion reporter subsequently that the matter had been considered at great length, and (hat, cerium decisions had been reached. 1 lie--c decisions would have to he referred to Cabinet lor approval, and in the meantime he could make no armonuccmenl as to prices. There is reason (<> believe that the increase of twopence in the price of the four-pound loaf, announced on Saturday, will not be confirmed, and that Hour will not advance in price to the extent already reported; that is, by £d a ton. The continuance oi. the Government s snosidy on Ilnur may be necessary in order to keep tbe prices down. The nnine, incemcnl ol prices made trom Christchurch at the end of last week was'premature. The Him! decision i-esis with Cabinet, which has not eel had an opportunity of considering the details. Mr Massey staled on Tuesday that the Government was taking action to prevent holders ol wheal and Hour from making unfair profits when new prices came into operation. Complaint has been made in-the South Island that millers were likely to benefit very largely by the changes now under consideration.
