(To the Editor.) Sir. —May 1 suggest to the Borough Council that when instructions are given to have ruts filled in with metal in the various streets, instead of tipping the metal in the hole and leaving a small mound, that »the hole he first picked out in order to let the filling bind, and thereby make a much better job.—Yours, etc., RATEPAYER. (To the Editor.) Sir.—l notice from a report in your paper that the Borough Council has purchased a chemical fire engine, and that a fire brigade has been formed., Weil, Sir, this is a start, ami I hope the Brigade will keep'going, until a proper scheme is brought down. Now that the brigade is formed public interest will be aroused to the necessity for up-to-date equipment, as the present chemical engine is only useful for stopping incipient fires. , The Boy Scouts might he taught how to charge the engine, and when' the other scheme is consummated—which should not be long —this engine could bo manipulated by the boys as an auxiliary. —Yours, etc., PROGRESS.
