A GARDEN PARTY
The, rain held off sufficiently long enough yeslet’day afternoon lo ensure that the garden parly organised by Mrs F. Robinson, and held at her residence, “Pi Kotuku,” Beach Road, on behalf of SI. Mary’s Homes, Karori, wa.s a decided success. There was a large iiumhcii of people present, who enjoyed walking round Hie beautiful grounds and admiring Hie flower beds, which were a perfect blaze of colour. The heal was intense, but not withstanding this all spent a vorv pleasant afternoon. Some of Hie younger ones were eu;ergelic enough to play tennis. During Hie afternoon tea and ices were provided, which helped to make the heal more .endurable. Two compe--lil ions were held, and were won by Mrs Stuckey and Miss Thymic. By the front door there was a collecting box, which, on being opened, was found to contain the sum of £9 Us lid. In addition to this amount, £6 2s Od was collected by Mrs Shaw at Montoa and Maroliri, so (hat the homos will receive the splendid sum of £ls 13s lid. St. Mary’s Homes have been in existence for twenty-one years.. In Hie beginning' the Home started with six girls, and a matron. To-day (here are three homes, containing sixty-five girls and five matrons. No heller,social work can bo done than helping to rescue girls from beginning a life of vice, or from evil surroundings. Further subscriptions to help the work will be gladly acknowledged by All's F. Robinson, or 1 lie Rev. \V. Raine.
