The Alanawalu Centre’s “champion. of champions” singles competition was played on the Alanawalu Club’s green yesterday afternoon. The following were nominated by Hie diftVmil clubs :—Palmerston North, 11. Seifert; Damievirke, J. (.’aider; Alanawaiu, F. Lanrcnson; Terrace End, Forrest; Shannon, J. A. Roach; Foxlon, Ft I). Whihley. The Shannon represent a live, however, did noli (urn up. The Centre had decided Hint the competition should he on the “sudden death” principle, hut as only live players were taking part it was decided to play on a modified “two life&svsleni, thus guaranteeing every playin' at least two games. The two lives referred only lo the first (wo founds, ait or which the games would he continued on Hie “sudden deaHi” principle, players winning one or bulb of the first two games continuing in Hie competition mi the same fooling as each other. 1( was considered that if the “two life” system was continued right through Hie competition il might not he possible, to complete same in the i.nc day, and the modified system was considered to he the best possible under the circumstances. The following are the details of Ihe play: — First Round. — Forrest 17 hear Lanrcnson 16; Whihley 20 heal Seifert 17, (alder a bye. Second Round. —Seifert 80 heat .Lanrcnson 3; Mhthley 22 beat (’alder 20; Forresl a. bye. 'Third Round. —Seifert 10 heat C, aider 14; Whihley 21 heal Forrest. 17. Final.—Seifert 15 heal Whihley 12. ' The following are Hie results of Hie games played by each competitor: Seifert, 3 wins and 1. loss; Whibiey, 3 wins and 1 loss; Forrest, 2 wins (including a bye) and 1 loss; Cahler, 1 win (including a bye) and 2 losses; Lanrcnson, 2 losses. In Hie two matches played between. Seifert and W'hibley, Hie margin at Hie finish was the same, Whihley winning the first game by three points, ami Seifert had the same ihargin when lie won Hie last game. The “champion of champions” competitions were inaugurated by the Alanawatu Centre last season, when the singles were won by Laumison (Alanawatu), with Whihley ' ( Foxlon) as runner up. This year (he Palmerston Club’s representative (H. Seifert) was successful, and Whihley was again runner up. Another match for the Nye Ferns was played on the local green this week, when the holders had no difficulty in retaining possession’, the challengers calling “enough” after sixteen heads had been played. The teams and scores were as follow: — Roore Crawley D. Whibiey ; Haine Hawke AlcColl Xyc (s) 22 Christie (s) 5 The next challengers are: Alercer, John Ross, Ra.ine, Stevenson (s).
