COORESPONDENCE.

(To the Editor.) ' Sir. —I do not wish to stir up strife, but I would like to ask a few questions re the purchase of a piano for the school. Now, Sir, did not the present Chairman,' during tho “German piano scare," and also his patriotic coadjutor, write to ■ the Board ami inform (hem that certain residents would subsidise a certain stun above £45 to purchase a British piano? AVhy has this patriotic proposal been overlooked? Will the Chairman please explain to the public why he did not invite local ap-t plications to redeem the patriotic statement, instead of buying one at a comparative exorbitant price? If) is true that only £45 comes out of the Committee’s funds, Sir,, but the other £45 comes out of the taxpayers’ pockets, and the Committee Infs as much right to safeguard the public purse as the individual’s. Further, will the Chairman be kind enough to tell the public the age of the purchase, its pre-war value, and what amount, of “patriotic profit,” if any is being’ made on the deal. And will the Chairman deny or otherwise, that this brand of piano was sold prewar >at. £SO to £55? British fair play and British patriotism stands tor a fair light and a fair deal, and I ask the Chairman to act in accordance with these principles and now make good. —Yours, etc., INTERNATIONAL.
