An old and respected guard on the Wairarapa railways, named Gnu's! George, died with tragic suddenness •on Saturday evening. He joined the down.mail train at Cross Creek, but when the Summit was reached he did not appear, and an investigation showed him sitting in the van, quite dead. The body was removed to Cross Creek, where an .inquest was held yesterday by the District Coioner, Air E. G. Eton. The doctor who made a post mortem examination deposed that death was due to fatly degeneration of the heart. A verdict was returned accordingly.
