, ; : Tim moiiili.lv meeting of the Alarm vvatu .County Council was held at Sanson on Tuesday. The following Councillors were presentCrs. IT. H. Hunt, W. J. Phillips, Jas. Boyce, W. E. Barber, and 11. G. Hammond. Apologies were received from the County chairman (Sir James G. Wilson). €r. Hunt was voted to the chair. ■ Correspondence as under was received; — State Advances Office: That provisional approval had been granted for loans of £2,000 for ’workers’ dwellings, ami £1,0(10 for completion of bridges on Alain Drain road. Slate Advances Office: That the Governor-General in Council had given his consent to the proposed Joan of £30,000 for improvements to tramway and stond crusher plant,’ etc., being raised. Minister of Public Works; That the Council’s application for loan moneys for purpose of reticulation of the MiumwaUi County in anticipation of the Governmont’s AJangaluio electric power scheme, had been received, and that he was obtaining a report .on the matter. Public Wprks Department; That a grant of £l5O for Fyke’s road (£1 for £1) was available. —Received. Commissioner of Crown Lands: That it was proposed shortly to offer seel ions al town of Tatigimoami (Rangitikei Heads) for disposal, and asking Council’s opinion as to formation- of streets. —Left in the hands of Councillors Hunt, Penny and Hammond to deal with. Valuer-General, forwarding account for £l7l 4s for re-assessing the County valuation.—A. protest to be made, as the Council considers the charge excessive. .Foxton Chamber of Commerce, stating that Urn eradication of goatsrue was receiving attention in I lie Woodville district by the Department of Agriculture, and asking that, the weed lie declared a noxious weed. —Resolved: That the Foxton Chamber of Commerce be wrillcn to slating that in the opinion of tins Council the only way of dealing with goatsrue in the lower readies ol the Mamiwatu river,is by making a cut for the river so that there is siilheient current to carry the seed away instead of sprCjadmg it over the land as at present. Glen Dnma Dairy Co., ami- Kopaiie settlers, asking if the Conned had taken steps to obtain a of electric power when same' is available from the Mongolian scheme. ■—To- bo informed that the Council had already applied for a license to distribute.

ENGINEER'S REPORT. General: With reference to purchasing an engine lo drive the stone crusher, J have made an inspection of two or three portable engines, and the only one 1 can recommend is a T2si.p. Kansomes, Sims and Jeltrie.s compound engine with a .working pressure of IGOlhs. This engine may be larger than we reijuire, but on the other hand should wc need extra machinery to turn out a hotter class of metal wo shall rei)uiie an engine of this type. There are two of these .engines lor sale at Palmerston North al present; they are in good working order, and the Council can have their choice for the sum . of £-100. The following are my estimate.for the iindermentioiiet; contracts: —Contract No. 25(i, ipmfrying and crushing 8,000 yards of road metal, 5s lid per yard; contract Xo. 207, Eoilding-Awahuri road, delivering 400 yards of metal, Os per yard; contract No. 258, Sandon-Awahuri road, delivering (100 yards of metal, 8s (id per yard; contract X'o. 209, River Bank road, delivering 350 yards of. metal, 8s per yard; eontract No, 200, Penny's line, delivering 250 yards of metal, Ss lid per TR AMA VA Y A LV N AGE IPS REPORT The chief items of traffic were: ■Merchandise 128 tons, minerals 1051 tons, cheese and butter 202 tons, sheep 53 trucks, timber 8.300 • feet, wool 510 bales. amounted to £23 7s Bd. The locomotive “Alanawatu” has been used during the month, and given .satisfaction. Tl/e coal supplies are coming very slowly to hand. Whilst in ■Wellington, I made enquiries, hut could not get any promise of a regular supply. The live lons of 451 b. rails ordered some time ago have arrived in Wellington, and will be to hand during the present week.
