FOXTON RACES.
A RECORD MEKTJN^. Tin; Foxton Racing ChibV animal race mealing, lield on Thursday and yesterday, was the* most .successful yet held hy the Club, Since the laVd gathering extensive improvements have been made to the grounds, buildings and appointments, and lhe.se have.'made a great difference in.the accommodation on the lawn, the grandstand and tola lisa tor house having been shilled back, more than doubling the lawn accommodation. Further improvements are still to be made, and when these are completed Foxton will have the best appointed' course of any town of its sine in the Dominion. The weather conditions were excellent, and the attendance on the lirst day was easily a record for the course. The two special lrains were; crowded, and the nnmher of motor cars lhal were on the ground was the hugest ever seen there. The second day's attendance, ahhongli not anything like that of the lirst day, was highly satisfactory:. The racing throughout the meeting was good, some very line Jinishes taking place, and the handicapper, Mr J. F. Ilonrys, is to he congratulated on the success of his adjustments. The Cup was won by the Blenheim owned and trained Inmrihhon, who heat the locally owned Moutoa Ivanova hy a small margin. Moutoa Ivanova, however, turned the tallies yesterday in ihc President's Handicap, when she heat Imaribbon for lirst place by a length. That good sprinter, Waimatoa, accounted for the Anniversary Handicap ou the lirst day, carrying {lst 131b5., and paid the smallest price of the meeting. Mr A. Cordon tilled the position of Stipendiary Steward, but beyond a couple of minor enquiries, had nothing to deal with, the racing’being very dean indeed. .Mr Angus Keith was in good form at the starting harrier, Ids dispatches on both days he nig excellent, : The judge, .Mr J. Cameron, although he had some very close finishes to decide, Idled the position admirably, and gave satisfaction lo all. The amount handled at the lolalisator was easily a, record, (he total for the lirst day being £3.1,571), as compared with for the one day meeling last year, an increase of .€(),. 1()7. Yesterday the amount put through the machine was .025,(181, making the total for the meeting .057,259. Ou the lasi occasion on which the Club raced bn two days (1917), the sum handled was £33,120, so that, this year's figures show the substantia! gain of 022,130 over the figures of three years ago. The gate receipts this year were also a record, showing a very substantial increase over previous years. The president of the Club (Mr J. ML Whyte), secretary (Mr Ended Wauklyn), and ad the officials worked hard throughout the meeting, and it was due in a very great measure to (heir efforts that the meeting was so successful. They it hi certainly to be congratulated, ou the excellent manner in which the meeting, was managed, everything going off without a hitch. The catering arrangements were in the hands of .Messrs Langley Bros., who carried same out in their usual cxcclle/u style.
