VOLUNTEER FIRE BRIGADE.
TO BE FORMED LOCALLY, The public meeting convened by the Mayor, and held in the Conned Chamber on Thursday night, to consider the question of the formation of a fire brigade in Foxton, was attended by about 20 citizens. The Mayor presided, and explained that the matter of the formation of a Ore brigade had been before the Council for some little time, and at the last meeting 'it was decided to purchase a chemical lire -engine, provided a, volunteer brigade could be formed. Mr Perreau stated that he had made a canvass for names of those willing to join a brigade if formed, and handed in a list containing about 30 names. It was decided on Hie motion ,of the Chairman, seconded by Air Christie, that a. fire brigade be formed, to be called the Foxton Volunteer Fire Brigade, and to consist of not less than 20 members. The entrance fee was fixed at 2s (id; honorary.members to be admitted at an annual subscription of ten shillings. The following committee was set up to enrol members, and (o call a further meeting at a later date, and submit a report:—Messrs E. Parkin, A. N. Smith, H. Hamer, D. Christie and AI. E. Perreau.
