CORRESPONDENCE.
(To the Editor.) Sir.—'l was interested in the Council’s discussion ’ re the Borough Band at' last Council meeting. It’s all very well for the Mayor to talk about ‘‘our” Borough Band, but he forgets that the few lovers of music who keep the Band going do so for the love of the thing and get nothing for their services. Fancy offering the Band 16s 8d per performance and stipulating three performances a month, and two to he given to assist a private picture.show. Why didn’t the Mayormake.it a condition that jthc. picture show proprietor subsidise the 16s 8d to a like amount for each performance? I don’t think the Band is receiving the sympathy from. the Council that it is entitled to, and the 16s 8d compulsory clause may be objected to. There is nothing like a little music to enliven the town, and a grant of £3O per year and one public performance a month would he a fairer oiler. — Yours, elc., DRUM-STICK.
